Carrier of the Mark Leigh Fallon Books

What had attracted me to this book was the idea of people having control of the elements and it being only 4 people as opposed to the actual Air Bender series where people are divided into nations for their ability. But, like many fellow reviewers have said the similarities to Twilight are to me, earth shatteringly obvious. The fact that their actual powers are presented to us in such a boring way considering the potential for greatness just adds insult to injury. The insta-love was just way too over the top for me as well. The only reason I finished at all is because I hate leaving a book unfinished and I didn't want to pass judgement without actually having finished the book. The most excruciating read I've been through in a while.

Carrier of the Mark Leigh Fallon Books Reviews

I bought this book because of the hype without even reading what it was about. It took about a week to read; I can read a book in a few hours if it's fantastic or a month if it's horrible. This book was a little better than okay. I enjoyed the idea and storyline of the book.

Parts of this book just went by incredibly slow, I actually fell asleep while reading one part of it. Other parts of the book were so good I couldn't stop reading until I hit a slow point. This was the problem, the pace of the book and the writing seemed inconsistent. Some parts were perhaps worked on and edited more than others. Some of this book was absolutely amazing and breathtakingly incredible while other parts lagged and bored me.

There were times when I thought Megan was foolish and childish but then I remembered this is a YA book. So that is to be expected. Fionn and Aine were my favorite characters and seemed to have the most personality. Ultimately though I did think it was worthy of between a 3 and 4 star rating because I would read a sequel if one were to come out. It was a good debut and had a lot more potential had the author worked on it a little longer, in her acknowledgements she had said she only worked on it a few months.
I love this book. It's not at all like I thought it would be. Thank god there weren't any bloody vampires. This is an enchanting and magical story. I highly recommend it for any and all reader's.
This is the first book I have read from this author and overall I did enjoy it. My only real complaint is the repetitive phrasing used by the author. It was as if she wasn't sure the reader understood what she was trying to say and needed to repeat it a few times. If there are other books in this series I will be checking them out and hoping the author stops the repetition.
love it. didn't know this was an autographed copy until i got it.
Okay so first off this book definitely isn't for everybody! There are some things that would get on most peoples nerves, for example, slight insta love. If little things and such bother you a lot then this probably won't be for you. I read this book just for an entertaining read- and this is that! It's action packed with tons of plot to keep your attention. I ignored some minor problems and just simply enjoying reading this! Overall, I thought this book was a fun read!
I was looking forward excitedly to reading Carrier of the Mark. It looked very interested and I'd heard some great things about it. However, as I started reading I found some disturbing similarities to Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga. I felt Megan was a stronger character than Bella and the mythos of this story was definitely more interesting. There were parts that seemed medieval - such as arranged marriages for the Carriers (meaning females) to produce babies who could be Marked at some point.

I do worry about young women or men getting the idea they need to have a partner (boyfriend/girlfriend) to survive in life. Megan was willing to give up her awesome powers just to be with Adam. Adam and Megan's relationship is the epitome of a codependent relationship, where one or both people in the relationship is psychologically dependent on the other in an unhealthy way. I feel this is a bad example to give because in real life codependency often leads to an abusive relationship - not something I'd want for anyone.

I am interested to see where this trilogy takes us, so I will most likely read the next two books, though I will borrow them from the library.

Synopsis

So, what is this book about? Well, there is a girl, Megan, who just moved to Ireland with her dad. She starts at a new school and, before she even steps onto school property, locks eyes with the hottest guy ever, Adam, and is immediately infatuated. She is instantly popular, and of course, Adam can't stop thinking about her either. Everyone warns her about Adam and his family. They are different and there are rumors of strange happenings. Megan, of course, doesn't listen and soon finds herself immersed in a world of magic and danger.

Review

If you couldn't sense the sarcasm above, look again. This is Leigh Fallon's debut novel and my hope for her is that she learns from the mistakes of this book. I may have rated this 2-3 stars if it were not for the fact that the story outline of this book is not original at all. This book is Twilight with different details. Let me clarify. I don't mean that it is a Twilight-like story, I mean that the story follows right along with everything that happens in Twilight, just without vamps and weres. Because of this, the story is incredibly predictable.

The other major complaints that I have is that this book lacks emotion and character connection. The majority of the story reads like a report and is flat. There are parts in the story that are meant to explain the Order and the Mark, but really they just confuse the heck out of you.

I think that if I was a sixth grader, this book probably would have been better, but for a more mature reader, this just didn't do it for me. I hope that this author improves with her writing, and also chooses to create her own ideas in future books.
What had attracted me to this book was the idea of people having control of the elements and it being only 4 people as opposed to the actual Air Bender series where people are divided into nations for their ability. But, like many fellow reviewers have said the similarities to Twilight are to me, earth shatteringly obvious.
