This was a lovely read by a debut author. A Bridge of Her Own was told in a narrative style that left me feeling like I made a new friend in Jane, the main character. Likable and real, Jane's story is full of growth, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Her story took me back to that precious and often painful time of late adolescence and early adulthood, when we are uncertain about our paths, when we make bad choices, and then are forced to move on and hopefully grow from them. It was full of humor and dialogue that was fresh and real -- I simply loved Jane's long-term friend, roommate, and cheerleader, Lacey, who has no qualms pool-sharking a guy at an arcade game and then grabbing his face and kissing it. I adored Jane's father, who coughed something suspiciously like a swear word when Jane's ex-boyfriend tried to reenter her life. There were moments that were sweet and others that made me want to cry. And I found myself truly rooting for certain characters, and wanting to hit over the head other characters -- or throw them under a bus, in the case of emotionally abusive ex-boyfriend, Wyatt. I think that was the true power of this story. It made me really feel for Jane and literally want to stand up and cheer for her when she finally discovered herself. I might have done just that.I really loved this story and am looking forward to more from this author.

A Bridge of Her Own A New Adult Novel edition by Carey Heywood Yesenia Vargas Traveller Playground Press Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I picked this book because of the reviews. Not one of the best books I've read lately. It didn't really keep me interested. I was ticked off at Jane most of the time for being so stupid but I guess that was all part of the story. Apparently it is a good read for some but just not for me.
I loved this book so much at first all I wanted to do was punch Wyatt in the throat and face and anywhere else possible, but by the end she met an amazing man and had an amazing sister who was always there I would deff recommend this book I finished it within a day. I just could not put this book down!!
This story A Bridge of Her Own is a good story about a woman learning about herself. It shows how strong a female can be and also how herself worth can be put to the test. You know the old saying, 'Love is Blind'. You would have to read this story and see if Jane's love for Wyatt is worth leaving her identity behind or does she like the way he molds her. I gave this story three stars because the story contains more telling of how events unfold rather than showing. Thank You Carey Heywood for a good read.
This is a great book about truly finding yourself and having to make your own mistakes along the way. As hard as it is for all of us to discover in the long run, hindsight is 20/20 and the main character Jane finds that in making plans and the way she saw things for her life the tables are turned on her. When she tries to set them right for herself, it happens again. Finally stepping back completely she does what she's needed to do all along and finds HERSELF. But her plans never seem to be her own control or is it?
I really enjoyed this book and am going to recommend it as often as I can.
The first book I've read by this author was Him. I thought that book was amazing and can't wait to read Her. However, A Bridge of Her Own was disappointing for me after reading Him. For the first half of the book, I felt aggravated. Towards the middle, it was easier to read. But towards the end, I just skimmed the pages and couldn't wait for it to be over. The storytelling style of this book is different from Him. Instead of "living" through the events with the main character, it was more of a retelling of events. Not very engaging. I wouldn't recommend this book. I'd say skip over this book and read Him.
I have many things to say first I really enjoyed the inflection this book had. I believe the depth of the emotion really got to me. I was a little irritated in the beginning because of my intolerance to Jane. I felt that she should have been looking from others point of view instead of blowing them off. However, I see now that many of us do it constantly, because it is our life and we know what we are doing. I guess for many of us we have to learn from our own mistakes and maybe friends need to understand. With that being said I did enjoy the story and was hopeful for the happily ever after.
In the end this book is a great model that maybe learning is not all that is cracked up for. I would rather know from others instead of experiencing it on my own but sometimes it doesn't work out that way.
First of all...Wyatt Huntington III, you are one of the biggest jerks to ever walk this earth, and I despise you!
Now that that's out of the way...
I loved this book. It was a hopeful, sweet, inspiring read that was exactly what I needed right now. I was sucked in immediately and couldn't stop reading!
I identified with this novel's heroine from the very beginning, when she began dating and quickly lost her virginity to that absolute JERK Wyatt. This scene was written in such an honest way; it was painful and really struck a chord with me. It was also painful to watch Jane try so desperately to stay with Wyatt and fall apart whenever he threatened to leave her, even though she had to give up so much of herself to be with him. Though Jane's lack of self-reliance could be frustrating to read about at times, I really appreciated Heywood writing a character who not only starts out with a lack of independence, but takes a long time to find herself and suffers setbacks once she begins to. This was a very honest portrayal of the way so many young women feel, and it was completely believable considering Jane's personality and relationship with her parents.
Letting Jane make mistakes, and taking such time to develop her character, also allowed the author to make her character growth that much more rewarding to experience. I absolutely loved the way the book ended, and I really appreciated that while Jane had a new man in her life, the journey was more about her personally than about the romance. I also loved the strong female friendship portrayed throughout this novel.
A great read sure to resonate with anyone who's struggled to overcome their insecurities and stand on their own.
